Learn the Fundamentals of Ayurvedic Medicine

This 12-month program offers both in-depth theoretical knowledge and personal, practical guidance in practicing an Ayurvedic lifestyle. In addition to Ayurvedic medicine, we have included some wonderful transformative tools for you in this program, such as Introduction to Vedic Astrology, Yoga and meditation. The goal is for you to personally experience the effect on a physical, mental and spiritual level. After completing this year, you can continue your education to become a certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor or Practitioner.

Language: This course is taught entirely in English.

Duration: 12 months, 50 EC’s

Teaching days: Total 24 teaching days in year 1 +

> 15 hrs Ayurvedic Massage Workshop

> 12 hours  Introduction to Vedic Astrology (divided over 6 lessons of 2 hours)

Teaching method:  There are two options for following this course:

Blended Learning classroom education. Combination of self-study, 2 live teaching days (Friday online and Saturday classroom in The Hague) per module. Exception is massage workshop. 
Blended Live-online. Same as above but then the 2 live teaching days via zoom instead of in person classroom. Exception same as above.

What does the training entail?

The modules

In Module 1, we embark on a journey of self-discovery and community building. You’ll receive an introduction to the Ayurvedic and Yogic lifestyle, meeting all the teachers while gaining a fresh perspective on yourself. Our first day together begins with a beautiful ritual, fostering a sense of community. We will explore the principles of self-care and embrace a sattvic lifestyle, setting the foundation for our learning experience

In Module 2, we journey back to the origins of ancient wisdom, immersing ourselves in the foundational Ayurvedic texts. We will delve into the profound philosophies of Raja Yoga and Tantra Yoga, uncovering their timeless teachings. Additionally, this module offers insights into the history and introduction of Vedic Astrology,enriching your understanding of these interconnected disciplines. We will continue to build upon previous module when it comes to practicing daily routine. 

In Module 3, we delve into the intricate world of Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology, uncovering the foundational principles that govern our bodies and minds. This module offers a comprehensive exploration of the 20 qualities of all matter, the five elements and their connection to the senses, and the profound Tridosha theory along with its subdoshas. You’ll gain insights more insights into Prakruti, your unique constitution, and Vikruti, your current state of health, as we discuss the signs of imbalance and the basic principles of treatment. We will also explore the seven dhatus, or tissues, and the concept of Ojas, the essence of vitality and resistance. By linking these teachings to our own constitutions and health states, we will use yoga, pranic healing, lifestyle adjustments, and rituals to harmonize the elements within us, fostering balance and well-being.

Welcome to Module 4: The Basics of Digestion According to Ayurveda, where we delve into the profound wisdom of Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology. This module takes you to the core of digestion, exploring not just the food we consume, but everything we absorb through our senses. Discover the intricate dance of Paka (digestion) and Agni (digestive fire), and learn about the 13 agnis that govern our body’s transformative processes. We will explore how tissues are formed, the essence of Ojas, and the four forms of Ama (toxins) that can disrupt our health. Gain insights into the waste products and the vital srotas (channels) that facilitate balance and flow within the body. Through this journey, we will connect these concepts to our own lives, understanding the state of our Agni, Ama, and srotas, and learn how to harmonize them. Welcome to Module 5, where we embark on a transformative exploration of how disease unfolds through the lens of Ayurveda. In this module, you will gain a deep understanding of the natural movement of the doshas and the consequences when they fall out of balance. As we delve into these dynamics, we support our personal journey of self-awareness, experiencing a shift in consciousness that reveals how imbalances and conditions manifest within us. This module encourages you to continue your individual and group sadhana, allowing the knowledge gained to resonate not just intellectually, but to truly settle into the heart. Through this holistic approach, we aim to integrate our learning, fostering a profound connection between mind, body, and spirit.

uilding on your foundational knowledge of Ayurvedic principles, digestion, and the progression of disease, Module 6 invites you to deepen your diagnostic skills. This month, we will explore the three essential approaches to understanding disease and imbalance, equipping you with the tools to conduct a comprehensive Ayurvedic assessment. Learn the art of functional, Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle anamnesis, and learn about the 8 and 10-fold examination techniques. Delve into the examination of dhatus (tissues) and srotas (channels), and learn about urine, pulse, and tongue diagnosis. This module is the foundation for you to integrate these diagnostic methods later on as ayurvedic health professional, enhancing your ability to identify and address imbalances with precision and insight.

Welcome to Module 7, where we journey into the realm of Ayurvedic Psychology, exploring the intricate connections between personality and subtle anatomy. This month, we delve into the interplay of personality with the three doshas, and the profound influence of the three gunas on our mental and emotional states. Discover the layers of subtle anatomy, including the three bodies and the five koshas, and gain insights into the flow of energy through the three nadis. Through experiential practices such as yoga, lifestyle adjustments, rituals, and pranic healing, we will explore how to balance and transform our subtle anatomy. This module encourages you to reflect on the challenges encountered when balance is disrupted, offering a deeper understanding of the self and the path to harmony.

Embark on a transformative journey in Module 8, where we delve into the profound world of Chakra Theory and the subtle doshas—Prana, Tejas, and Ojas. This month, you will explore how these energetic centers and subtle forces influence health and disease, gaining the ability to recognize signs and symptoms of chakra imbalances. We will also introduce the concept of Kundalini energy, guiding you on how to awaken this powerful force within. Building on your foundational knowledge of Pranic Healing, this module offers Advanced Pranic Healing techniques, where an understanding of the chakras becomes invaluable. Through the integration of yoga, lifestyle practices, rituals, bija mantras, pranayama, and pranic healing, you will personally experience the impact on the state of your chakras and the flow of Prana, Tejas, and Ojas, empowering you to cultivate balance and vitality.

Welcome to Module 9, where we explore the transformative power of food as medicine through the lens of Ayurveda. This month, immerse yourself in the foundational principles of Ayurvedic nutrition, understanding the six tastes and their impact on the doshas. Learn the guidelines for healthy digestion and discover how different food categories influence balance and well-being. You will gain the skills to select the most suitable nutritional programs and diets for treatment, turning your kitchen into a space of healing and ritual. Together, we will explore Ayurvedic superfoods and transform cooking into a mindful sadhana. Additionally, this module will guide you in supporting others on their nutritional journeys, while also encouraging a deep reflection on your own relationship with food. Embrace this opportunity to nourish both body and spirit, fostering a holistic approach to health and vitality.

Step into the world of Ayurvedic Herbalism with Module 10, where you will build upon your knowledge of Ayurvedic nutrition to explore the foundational principles of herbal medicine. This month, you will become intimately acquainted with 20 essential herbs, learning to recognize their properties and experimenting with them firsthand. Together, we will taste and experience each herb, deepening your understanding of their actions and common preparations. Delve into the theory of formulating herbal complexes and discover the relationship between herbs, dhatus, and srotas. While you will not yet treat diseases or conditions with herbal medicines as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor, you will gain valuable insights into classical formulas that you may use. This module empowers you to harness the healing potential of herbs, enriching your practice and enhancing your journey toward holistic health.

Welcome to Module 11, where we explore the art of balancing the doshas through holistic therapies and rituals that engage the five senses. This month, you will delve into the transformative practices of aromatherapy, color therapy, gemstone therapy, sound therapy, and massage therapy. Discover how these therapies, combined with yoga and rituals, can restore harmony and well-being. We will also provide you with protocols to address common challenges such as digestive issues, sleep disturbances, stress and burnout, PMS, and menopause. This module offers a comprehensive approach to healing, empowering you to integrate these therapies into your practice later and your personal life, fostering a deeper connection to holistic health and balance.

Embark on a journey of cleansing and rejuvenation with Module 12, where you will be introduced to the foundational theory of Panchakarma, the five-fold Ayurvedic detoxification and revitalization program for the body, mind, and consciousness. This module will guide you in understanding when a client or patient requires tonification, palliation, or reduction therapy, equipping you with the knowledge to make informed decisions in your practice. As an Ayurvedic Health Counselor, you will learn the art of Abhyanga, a key component of Panchakarma, while the design of comprehensive Panchakarma programs will be explored in the Practitioner program. This module lays the groundwork for deeper exploration, offering insights into the transformative potential of Panchakarma in achieving holistic health and balance.

In this series of 6 classes of 2 hours you will learn the basics of Vedic Astrology to apply firstly for your own transformation.

Interwoven throughout the training is the 50-hour Yoga Foundation of saktiisha yoga by Savitri Sattoe.

We explore the background of yoga and delve deeper into the yoga philosophy. What is yoga? How do you apply yoga in daily life?

Basic Asana, Yoga Sutras by Patanjali. Application of Yama & Niyama, Basic Pranayama and Basic Asanas
Yoga in daily life. How do you integrate yoga into our daily lives through Yamas & Niyamas, Pranayama and Asana practice. Yoga on the mat and outside.
In addition, the 50-hour Tantra Yoga Foundation by Mar de Hartog is also interwoven throughout the training.

Tantra Yoga philosophy and background
During the training, Mar de Hartog will ensure the embodiment of tantra by teaching you to awaken the life energy and to use rituals and mantra for your transformation and healing.
